dna pool

woo-hoo, 1st poster. It sure would help to get some known Lochaber dna in the studies. Ontario has a large number of immigrants from Lochaber and area with proven ancestry. My head is getting pretty sore from beating it against the Atlantic wall.

My brother will be having his tested before Christmas(2012). He is a known descendant of Alexander (Alasdair Mor) MacMillan. Alexander MacMillan was born in Dochanassie, Lochaber, Scotland and was a policeman in Glasgow before migrating to Rear Little Judique (now St. Ninian), Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia with his family in the 1820's. Many of his line migrated to Boston; some remain in Canada.

That's good to know about the lineage. What DNA test is he doing? Is he in the paternal line?

Is he decended from the Alasdair Mor MacMillan who married Anne MacDonald?

Make sure you join the FTDNA MacMillan project. We have another MacMillan who has connections to Kilmonivaig which is the southern end of Loch Lochy.

Hello, I am a Murlaggan MacMillan descendant. My 5xgreatgrandfather was Ewen MacMillan 1734-1835 and his wife Christian Cameron 1738 -1842. They lived in Murlaggan. Ewen's father Angus (Glenpean) MacMillan was tacksman at Glenpean. Ewen's brother John Ban MacMillan 1729-1820 married Christian McCalman. They had 7 children, Duncan Ban, Sarah, Donald, Anne, Ewen, Mary and another Ewen. Duncan Ban 1783-1861 went to Glengarry, Ontario (Canada) with his wife Mary MacMillan. Their children were Daniel, John, Christian, Mary, Allan, Duncan D, Alexander. I would love to hear from anyone who descends from this family or from the other children.

Thanks
Fiona
